Question for liability insurance and collision insurance?

Toshiko Reimers: What if the other driver has no insurance, or is under-insured? That's when your own uninsured motorist insurance saves your bacon. What if the other person's insurance refuses to pay for some reason? What's when your own insurance saves your bacon. I don't understand why people think they can get by with only cheap liability coverage.

Malcom Bourek: What if you lose control on a wet road and crash into a utility pole. The electric company's insurance will not pay for your vehicle. What if someone hits your car while it is parked, then takes off? there are all kinds of situations where you need collision insurance. If there is liability insurance, the liability carrier pays property damage claims. There is no splitting involved. My advice: buy all of the insurance you can afford....Show more

Providencia Jalbert: Sure, if you were not at fault the other party's policy would cover all damages. However, what if you woke up one morning to find! your car had been sideswiped and the driver that caused the damage was unknown. You would have to use your collision coverage to cover the repairs. And yes, report all incidences to your insurance provider regardless of who is at fault. One of the many reasons you pay your premium is so they can represent you in situations such as that. You would not want to have any direct contact with the other party, you would want your agent to take care of all of the detail for you. That's their job....Show more

Herma Ellebrecht: To make my question clearer. I know collision coverage is good to have, but I really want to figure out when the other driver is at 100% fault, then his insurance will pay off all my loss, then at this situation, is it true that my collision policy would pay nothing for me (since the other guy's insurance has covered all my loss)?
