You can do this by walking into an ER or into an DMH clinic or by calling the police or ACCESS CENTER 1-800-854-7771If the person does not wish to go themselves but you fear for their safety (or the safety of others) you can call 911 - let them know it is a psychiatric emergency and request SMART (Systemwide Mental Assessment Response Team) or Psychiatric Emergency Response Teams (PMRT). Buster Buchko: the word is commit. if you are over 18 generally you can go to a hospital emergency room and check your self into the psychiatric ward if you under 18 a parent or gaurdian must do it. or the police or courts can have you commited. chec! k with the legal and mental health in your area. self commitment is generally best then you have some control over your stay if the legal system commits you its up to them how long.

Darcie Peraha: If she is suicidal she can go to the emergency room.
Hal Rouse: If a person needs urgent help he should go to the nearest emergency room and they will refer him to the appropriate place if the hospital does not have a psyche ward.
