Which walls do new remodel bathroom do the waterproof blue drywall needed?

Jeannetta Gaffigan: If there is an exhaust vent in the room, do only the walls that come into contact with water. Such as in the shower / tub area. But if there is no vent fan, do the whole room.. BUTTTT!!! These types boards are only water RESISTANT.. They will soak in water over a period of time. So added protection is needed in direct contact with water in a shower/tub area..This includes backer board if tile is being done or there are ways to waterproof the wall ( in the shower/tub ) so tiles can be done.. Roland Stampley: The green board is only water resistant, and should not be placed in rooms that are constantly in contact with moisture.The blue one, however, is moisture absorbent, and has high water resistance. It can be used in places that are frequently wet. Just don't forget that you will need a thin coat of plaster over the entire surface of the blue board as well.In addition, blue ! board is mold-resistant and helps reduce noise (if that counts). ;-)Blue board drywall is also known as plaster base board....Show more
