Elden Dedon: No wool, no honey, no milk, no down. Vegans do not use any products derived from animals at all. Killing the animal or not does not matter. Milk doesn't kill cows(at least directly).
Marhta Teahan: Familiarize yourself with the term please. The word "veganism" denotes a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude â" as far as is possible and practical â" all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals. No, you would not be considered vegan. You cannot pick and choose what is most convenient for you.You either are or you aren't, and wool for a vegan is certainly no-no....Show more
Jesusita Dykhoff: Vegans do not wear wool.Sheep are bred to produce m! assive amounts of wool, and they are sheared before the weather becomes truly warm. Also, as the shearers are paid by the sheep, they have no incentive to be gentle, and will often cut the sheep's skin. And in any animal industry, once production declines, the animals are slaughtered. If you have wool you have purchased already, feel free to continue wearing it, but once you go vegan, you should not purchase any new wool....Show more
Jerrod Guilfoil: Yes. Many vegans wear wool, especially the ones in the colder climates.
Soraya Coodey: You can still knit with materials other than wool- acrylic, nylon, cotton, polyester, etc. As a vegan, I will not knit with wool. I ususally just go with the acrylics that feel like wool.If you haven't seen the sheep being sheared, you cannot be sure that chunks of its flesh were not cut off too. If you are not sure, avoid the wool whenever possible (or buy yourself a sheep so that you know it is being treated humanely).
Gi! nny Trickett: DAH! sheeps don't over heat and die. Vegans don'! t wear animal products, so if you do your a vegetarian not a vegan. ok
Lonnie Jehle: no, did you know that before they get the wool... they are doing a surgical operation on sheeps called "Mulesing", it has its advantages like preventing flystrike on sheeps but a lot of people doing this mulesing have mishandled sheeps and eventually kills them..so i suggest dont wear wool...
Benita Nancy: No.
Tillie Wynott: You can do anything you want. I hear about how farmers slice of chunks of flesh from sheep on purpose though. If animals were left to their natural habitats I'd think things would be different.
Edmund Rappley: you could if you were vegetarian but not vegan.Vegan is when you stay away from any form of meat, clothing, drinks, grooming products, everything!
