Careers in Special Education?

Arlen Lopiccalo: I am not sure I understand your question. Generally a special educator does not have their own classroom, but works with many classroom teachers. They work with individual/small group, do consultation, and coordinate services, as you describe you like. As a licensed special educator you will make a much better income. More and more, school districts are leaning toward the classroom model for special educators and, for those in an inclusive setting, relying on resource teachers to oversee them. However, there are still many opportunities available where, as a special educator, you would be working with small groups of children with special needs in a school-wide, or even district-wide, setting.A Master's in Special ! Ed. may not be particularly useful, however, if you do not plan to become a certified teacher.
