Many take classes which can be used to advance on the pay scale3. You do pay for your classes, schools may pay for workshops or conventions, but usually not college classes. If you fail a class, you don't get the credits.4. All teachers take training every year. Training may be a day, weekend, week, a few hours, etc.5. Generally teachers choose the workshops they attend. They select ones that they are interested in or that will help them with a student/students. Workshops as a rule are great motivators and fun to attend6. The paperwork is heavy. Writing IEPs and all that goes with them is time consuming and perhaps the worst part of the job You do get used to it and there are similarities with all IEP's but no two are exactly alike. Life as a special education teacher is very rewarding to those ! who can see past the disabilities and see what the child can do, not what he or she can't....Show more
